You know the kind – loaded with more butter, sugar and marshmallows than most desserts. It’s delicious but pretty much any nutritional value the sweet potatoes once had is lost in all the butter and sugar. I really wanted to come up with a healthy sweet potato dish that is equally delicious, and you can feel good about eating and serving to your friends and family. I am happy to say: Mission accomplished!

Not only is this recipe easy to prepare, but it requires only three ingredients! Sweet potatoes, Del Monte® peaches, and real maple syrup. The recipe I have prepared for you serves 4-6 but is simple to double or triple depending on the size of the crowd you are serving.

The peaches I used here are Del Monte® canned peaches. Did you know that studies show canned peaches contain more antioxidants and vitamins than fresh as a result of the canning process? Awesome, right? And we all know what a powerhouse of nutrients the sweet potato is too. You are getting a major nutritional boost from this scrumptious side dish. Oh, and did I mention it almost tastes like candy? This one’s a winner, kids!

Recipes using canned peaches

I always have lots of canned fruits and vegetables in my pantry, and because Del Monte® cans most of its produce the same day that it’s picked, I feel good knowing I’m feeding my family something healthy and nutritious. It’s also nice to know that 90% of Del Monte’s fruits and veggies are grown in the US in the best growing regions! I have three little kids with another one on the way, and going to the grocery store has become quite the hassle. That’s why it’s so nice being able to stock my pantry with garden quality™ canned fruits and vegetables, without having to worry about it going bad in a few days and needing to make another run to the store.

Maple Glazed Sweet Potatoes and Peaches

Serves 4-6
These Maple Glazed Sweet Potatoes and Peaches taste like candy but they're actually healthy!! They make a perfect side dish for your holiday gatherings!


  • 2 large sweet potatoes (peeled and cut into bite size pieces)
  • 1 can Del Monte® Sliced Peaches in heavy syrup (15oz)
  • 1/3 cup real maple syrup


Step 1
Preheat oven to 400
Place peeled, chopped sweet potatoes in a single layer on a greased cookie sheet. Bake on the middle rack for 25 minutes. Turn down the oven to 325 and stir potatoes. Cook another 20 -25 minutes. They are done when you can pierce them with a fork easily. Do not cook them too long or they will get too soft.
Step 2
In a non stick saute pan add peaches and maple syrup. Cook on medium high, stirring often until syrup reduces and gets thick (about 10 minutes). When potatoes are cooked, stir them together with the peach mixture. Serve immediately.

    I depend on cans to liven up my meals, jump-start inspiration and make meals easy to assemble (I LOVE your recipe – I never would have thought of that). My main canned ingredient that I MUST have is tomatoes in cans of every type; given that practically half of my dishes are tomato based.
